Easy Beach Vacation Make-Up
March seems to that time of year when just about everyone is over Winter, me included. Everyone seems to start packing things up in search of sunny and sandy destinations. It's a great little taste of summer in the Winter to hold you over until the real summer months come. Usually I'm included with the group of people seeking some Vitamin Sea this time of year but unfortunately, adulting called & I couldn't make it happen.
For all of you that are heading somewhere warm, sunny, humid, and beautiful (I'm so jealous btw) I wanted to share my go-to summer/beach makeup products. Items I would be packing myself if I was headed to the warmth. These tried and true favorites were on overtime last year while I was in Mexico, all summer long, and during the hot & humid days in Hong Kong and Bali. They didn't fail me. Hopefully they won't fail you. They hold up in the heat, humidity, and sweat.
One of my favorite things about my summer/beach makeup is that it requires no make-up brushes. I feel like make-up brushes make the getting ready process more formal. By using your fingers, things feel more casual, laid-back, and effortless. What's great about these eight products is that they give you options. I love options, don't you?! Meaning you don't have to wear all of them at one time. During the day if you're sitting poolside, go with SPF and a little cream blush to give you color. I like using a cream blush because many SPFs tend to make me look a bit pale. If you want to keep it minimal at night, throw on some eyeliner, mascara, and do your brows. It's up to you how you want to wear them. For evening outs, I prefer wearing it all because I want to look a bit more put together. You've got options.
Another great bonus of these products is that they aren't just for the beach or summer. They work all year long too as you'll read, I use many of these in my daily make-up routine.
8 Make-Up Products for Your Next Beach Vacation
Foundation // Clinique SPF Super City Block Oil-Free Daily Face Protector SPF 40
I like to opt for no foundation and use this time as an opportunity to let my skin breathe so-to-speak. So I'll stick with just an SPF. This is the one I like to use only because drugstore SPF, even the kind that's made for the face, makes we breakout. But wear whatever works for you, just be sure to wear an SPF! I also like that the SPF is high and it's small enough to throw in my bag so I can reapply it throughout the day if needed.
Eye Primer // Trish McEvoy Eyebase Essentials Brightening Eyeshadow Primer
My eyelids can be a bit oily and with heat & humidity it's gets worse. So I like using a eyeshadow primer. It helps to keep your shadow and eyeliner in place all day long. It creates a great base for your eye makeup. I use it even if I'm only going to wear mascara because it also helps to even out the pigment and brightens my eye area. Plus, I've found if I wear mascara alone (especially in the heat) the oil from my lids tends to pick up the mascara from my lashes. That is not a pretty look.
Concealer // Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer
You can't beat a good concealer. The right one will instantly make you appear more awake, brighten under your eyes, and camouflage any dark circles. While I'm not in love with this concealer, it's the same one I've been using for the past year and I keep buying it. So it's obviously not that bad. I used to wear one by Make Up Forever but they stopped making it (hate when brands do that). What I like about this one is that the application is creamy and the coverage is buildable. If you have a concealer you love, let me know in the comments. I'm open to trying out some new ones.
Blush / Bite Beauty Multi-Stick
I love love all of Bite Beauty products. Their lipsticks are amazing. They released this multi-stick a few months before my trip to Asia and I was so excited for it. You can use this as blush, lipstick, and eyeshadow. Multi-purpose at it's best. I used it as my blush and lipstick.
Mascara // Benefit They're Real
This has been my go-to mascara for the last few years now. My favorite part of this mascara is the applicator brush. It has a domed tip to help lengthen and get to some of those smaller pesky lashes.
Eyeliner // Kat Von D Tattoo Liner
I'm an eyeliner girl through and through and if you are too, then you need this eyeliner. It's the freaking best. The brush tip makes the application so easy and effortless. The pigment just glides on with no tugging and pulling. I will say that it did take a few tries to get the hang of using it when I first tried it but just practice a little bit and you'll see how great it is. I get paranoid that I forget to bring it with me when I travel so I have like four of them stashed in various cosmetic bags. It goes on smooth and doesn't budge at all. So it's perfect for hot & humid temps.
Eyeshadow // Chanel Illusion D'Ombre Long-Wearing Eyeshadow
This cream eyeshadow is so soft and delicate that a little goes a long way. It has some shimmer (not glitter) so it looks perfect for sunny days. The color I wear is called, Melody. It's a slight pinkish/coral and it complements tanned skin nicely. Also, because it's a cream/gel eyeshadow you can apply it with your fingers. I use my ring finger to pick up some product from the pot and then gently swipe it across my lids. It comes with a tiny brush that you could use as well but I prefer my fingers.
Brows // Bobbi Brown Perfectly Defined Long-Wear Brow Pencil
If there is one thing I always wear even if I'm going with no makeup is my brows. The brows frame and help shape your face. I love that this is dual-ended with a brow pencil that is slanted at one end and a mascara type brush at the opposite end. My brow tip: When applying start with the middle of the brow. Don't start the beginning as we tend to have a heavier hand upon first application. If you start in the middle and work your way to the start of the brow you'll notice that your application pressure will ease up. This will ensure your brows looks natural.
